Dane County Towns Association

General Meeting

September 11, 2002

Meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by Chairman Gerald Derr.

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Roger Olson.

Chairman Derr introduced the guests in the audience.

Jim Linsley, Edgerton Fire District, gave the history of the Edgerton Joint Fire District, assisted by the Edgerton Assistant Fire Chief.

A proclamation commending emergency service workers was presented to the Dane County Fire Chiefs Association. Chief Dave Bloom, Chief Randy Selnow, and Chief Steve Knaus accepted on behalf of the Association.

Chairman Derr presented Phil Salkin with the "Friend of Towns" award for his support of Dane County Towns during his term on the County Board.

Ray Pena, Dane County Emergency Management, discussed the war on terrorism as it affects Dane County. He explained the many precautions that have been taken and continue to be implemented.

Minutes & Treasurer’s Report were approved.

Roll Call – 12 towns present.

Proposed 2003 Budget & Dues were presented to the group by Pat Ampe. A motion was made to approve the 2003 budget and dues. Since there was not a quorum of towns present, it was decided to do a postcard vote to all towns not attending. The 12 towns in attendance approved the budget and dues.

RPC Report-Dave Wiganowsky reported that the RPC seems to think it was business as usual, as they signed a 2 year lease for office space. It is likely that the County Exec will file suit over the dissolution.

Hazelbaker Report—Mark reported on some volatile issues in the towns, namely, quarries and fertilizer plant. He commented that the opponents on these issues sometimes get very angry and make remarks about the integrity of the elected officials. He felt that better communications by the applicants could prevent some of the nastiness.

Cracker Barrel Session – RPC, revising the zoning ordinance, Smart Growth and other topics were discussed by the members.

Motion to adjourn. Seconded and carried.

Respectfully submitted,

Patricia Ampe
