Dane County Towns Association

General Meeting

September 10, 2003

Meeting was held at Dorf Haus in Roxbury.

President Gerald Derr called the meeting to order at 8 p.m.

Roxbury Chair Erv Breunig led the flag pledge.

President Derr introduced guests.  Duane Gau, a new advertiser in newsletter, briefly spoke about his business and had door prizes for those attending.

Minutes/Treasurer’s Report A motion was made to approve, seconded and carried.

Roll Call was taken with 20 towns present.

Sheriff Hamblin talked about the 2004 budget and how cuts that he is being asked to make will seriously hurt the number of deputies on the road in the towns.  He is making every effort to make cuts that will not affect the protection given to town residents, but the department has been under budgeted and under staffed for the past years.  A motion by Steve Frame, Vermont, to support Sheriff Hamblin’s position on the budget was seconded by Kris Hampton.  The motion carried unanimously.

Roxbury Lake District – Vern Wendt spoke about how and why the Lake District has been formed, the process they went through and how they will fund the District.  The water levels in Crystal and Fish Lakes have risen 10 – 12 feet in the past few years endangering the residents who live in the area.  The first annual meeting was held on Sept. 6 and the budget and funding were discussed.

Lakes & Watershed Committee- John Van Dinter spoke about the current projects the Committee is working on including classification of the lakes which could result in an ordinance amendment curtailing the use of lake front property in the shoreline area.  Lakes & Watershed is conducting an electronic survey asking all municipalities to rank their priorities for the next five years.  They are listing 15 items, but if your priorities are not included in the list, you should  make them known to the committee.

2004 Budget and Dues—Pat Ampe presented the 2004 budget and dues schedule.  A motion by Vern Wendt to adopt the budget and dues was made.  Seconded by Brad Robinson.  Motion carried.

WTA Report—Bob Thomas talked about a budget workshop he had attended and urged everyone to attend the WTA convention in October.

Art Ries, who has taken Norm Faber’s place as District One Director, introduced himself and talked about his background.  He will be attending future meetings.

Special recognition was given to Norm Faber for his years of service and his regular attendance and contributions to our meetings.  Norm remains on the Education Committee and also the Wisler Committee.  He will be giving us updates from time to time.

The next meeting will be on November 12.

Motion to adjourn.  Seconded and carried

Respectfully submitted,

Patricia Ampe, Secretary
